Rangihou Reserve was identified through Council’s planning and research as a suitable location within the Dundas Ward to help address the shortage of youth-focused recreational spaces. The site provides an opportunity to introduce facilities that better support young people while complementing existing parks and open spaces in the area.
Council’s Community Infrastructure Strategy identified a significant shortage of recreational spaces designed specifically for young people aged 13 and over.
This project aims to help address this gap by creating spaces where young people can safely gather, socialise and stay active within their local community.
The draft Concept Design proposes a range of youth-focused recreational and social spaces at Rangihou Reserve. These include active play elements, informal gathering spaces, seating areas, landscaping and improved pedestrian access. The design aims to provide flexible spaces where young people and the wider community can be active, socialise and enjoy the park.
No. The draft Concept Design is a preliminary design developed using feedback received during Phase one engagement and Council’s planning research. Feedback received during this phase will help Council refine the design before progressing to construction (subject to approvals and funding).
Construction timing has not yet been confirmed. After the public exhibition period closes, Council will carefully review all submissions received and update the draft Concept Design as appropriate. Subject to approvals, funding and detailed design, construction timeframes will be confirmed at a later date.

City of Parramatta’s Community Infrastructure Strategy identified a shortage of youth-focused play infrastructure across the LGA. While around 15% of the LGA’s population is aged 18 to 24 years, only 2% of the current play space network caters for young people aged 13+.
