The City of Parramatta Community Engagement Strategy 2024-2028 was adopted by Council on Monday 9 December 2024. The Strategy details how we engage with you, and how you can have a say on projects that matter to you.
We are striving for a best-practice approach to engagement to help us to create more liveable communities, better public policy, and ensure people are at the core of what we do.
From 1 September 2026, all planning authorities, including City of Parramatta Council must use the statewide Community Participation Plan as required by the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The statewide Community Participation Plan explains how and when the community can participate in planning matters. It also explains when planning authorities are required to undertake community consultation in NSW. The plan provides minimum public exhibition timeframes that must be met by planning authorities and provides guidance on how and when a planning authority is required to engage with the community for different planning functions.
As a result of this change, the Consolidated Notification Requirements that are outlined in Appendix One of the City of Parramatta Community Engagement Strategy have now been superseded. The Strategy still plays an important role in detailing how Council consults on planning matters, outlining the specific methods and tools that we will use to engage with local communities and stakeholders. The consultation and exhibition timeframes as well as minimum methods of engagement and communication for all non-planning functions related projects remains unchanged.
The Community Engagement Strategy was last updated on 31 August 2026 to reflect that the Consolidated Notification Requirements that are outlined in Appendix One were superseded by the Statewide Community Participation Plan which came into effect on 1 September 2026.
