City of Parramatta Council | Bradley Drive Reserve, Carlingford

The existing playground at Bradley Drive Reserve is reaching the end of its useful life and is due for renewal. The current playground equipment is more than 20 years old and is located on a significant slope in the middle of the reserve, making it difficult to access. The replacement project will help ensure the playground remains safe, enjoyable and more accessible for local families and visitors.

The current playground includes:

A double swing with one infant seat and one standard strap seat
An open wavy slide with a metal ladder
Bark softfall
One park seat
Natural shade from nearby trees

The project will explore opportunities to create a modern local playground that is safer, more accessible and better connected to the surrounding neighbourhood. Proposed improvements being considered include:

Relocating the playground closer to Bradley Drive
Providing an accessible footpath connection from the street to the playground
New playground equipment designed for children aged approximately 8 to 13 years
Inclusive and accessible play opportunities, including a basket swing and at least one additional accessible play element
Rubber softfall
New seating
A new bin
Potential installation of a drinking fountain

The playground will be designed in line with relevant Australian Standards, Council's Playground Policy and the NSW Government's Everyone Can Play guidelines.

The following items are outside the scope of this project:

Flying fox
Trampolines
Water play

When replacing and upgrading playgrounds Council aims to improve accessibility where possible focusing on elements which have been considered alongside the NSW Government’s Everyone Can Play framework and principles. These elements include providing accessible equipment, surfaces, seating with armrests and access to playgrounds via pathways. All feedback received during the consultation will be carefully reviewed and considered when designing the new playground and selecting new play equipment.

Council will assess the number of requests for particular types of play equipment, identify common themes and concerns raised by the community, and consider these alongside factors such as site constraints, budget, safety requirements, accessibility, maintenance needs, and the overall project scope. This helps ensure the final design balances the needs of different age groups, users, and members of the community.

While it may not be possible to incorporate every individual suggestion, sharing your ideas is important. Community feedback plays a key role in shaping the design and helps Council understand which features are most valued by the community, so these can be incorporated wherever possible.
