Carter Street Bridges and Cycleways

Public exhibition concluded on Wednesday 6 October 2022.

In 2021, City of Parramatta Council sought the community's feedback on the proposed bridges, shared path and cycleway that will connect the Carter Street Precinct community with the Haslams Creek paths to the River, and M4 Shared path to Parramatta!

The outcomes of this consultation and a recommendation were reported to Council and endorsed on Monday 14 March 2022.

Connectivity from the west will also be significantly improved for any pedestrians and cyclists accessing Olympic Park for events, the proposed Light Rail and Metro stop, or the Carter Street town centre.

The proposed works include:

  • a bike path on the southern side of Carter Street between Hill Road and Birnie Avenue,
  • a 5m wide shared new bridge and path over Haslams Creek with connecting path to the east,
  • a 4m wide bridge over Hill Road with ramp access on each side,
  • opportunities for public art to be featured on the barriers/screens on the bridges.

Carter Street in Lidcombe has been identified on Council’s endorsed Bike Plan as a priority cycling route.

Significant increases in density within the precinct also require improved pedestrian connectivity to Council’s Parramatta Ways network. In the future, this link may also connect to a potential walking and cycling path along the disused Pippita railway line to Lidcombe.

The design for this project is funded under the NSW Government's Precinct Support Scheme.
