The Sportsground Allocation Policy aims to ensure that Council will allocate the use of its Sportsgrounds in a systematic approach which aligns with Council's broader Sportsground Strategy and Action Plan and values. The Policy establishes a framework for Council to manage competing public interests for using its Sportsgrounds, by setting out a consistent and transparent method for informing Council's decision-making regarding a range of key Sportsground access and management issues.
Council adopted this Policy on 22 July 2024 following public exhibition. After the scheduled review of the Policy in 2025, amendments were recommended to refine the way dates are referred to as well as the responsibilities of both Council and sporting user groups to better reflect community feedback and operational experience.
What is changing?
The following targeted amendments to the Policy are proposed to improve clarity and fairness.
- Alignment of dates: The policy now refers to weeks as opposed to days when calculating seasonal dates.
- Asset management focus: The policy makes clear Council’s focus on asset management to protect both Sportsgrounds and Sportsground hirers.
- Clarity on fees and charges: The policy reiterates the responsibility of hirers to ensure all relevant fees and charges are paid

Please note that the Sportsground Allocation Policy is an adopted Policy and these amendments do not change the Policy’s purpose which is to ensure that Council will allocate the use of its Sportsgrounds in a systematic approach which aligns with Council’s broader Sportsground Strategy and values, including to actively contribute to the health, wellbeing, equality, and inclusion of the whole community.
Your feedback will help ensure that the Policy reflects community needs across sports, ages and abilities, while we responsibly manage capacity, maintenance and fairness.
