The community was encouraged to provide feedback on the proposal between 12 May and 2 June 2025. Wider community support was generally positive, with 63% in favour, 27% against, and 9% supporting a trial. In contrast, local feedback from nearby residents was more divided: 50% supported the proposal, 46% opposed it, and 4% were in favour of a trial.
Based on community feedback, Council will develop a concept design for a temporary trial and present it for further community input in a second round of consultation by the end of 2025. The trial will feature a reversible setup within the proposed footprint, allowing the community to experience a park-like space without any permanent changes to the road. This approach gives the Council and the community the opportunity to evaluate the proposal’s impact before a decision is made about any permanent changes. A draft concept plan for this trial will be shared with the community, and feedback will be invited before Council seeks funding to implement the trial.
Items under consideration for the trial concept plan:
- Painted graphics on the asphalt e.g. art, play learning graphics and line marking for small games
- Removable surface-mounted furniture such as seating, tables, and planter boxes
- Creation of a landscape buffer to James Ruse Drive.
