Draft Guidelines for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

As Electric Vehicles (EVs) become more popular, City of Parramatta has developed guidelines to help facilitate the future network of EV charging infrastructures on Council land.

The guidelines will ensure that providers are aware of Council’s requirements and expectations when EV charging infrastructure is proposed within the Parramatta LGA.

Electric vehicles (EV) require charging infrastructure, and the installation of this infrastructure, like petrol stations, has certain requirements and rules that need to be followed.

Council sought feedback from the community on the Draft Guidelines for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure on Council Land from Monday 6 December 2021 to Monday 31 January 2022.

Council adopted the guidelines on 12 December 2022 incorporating some changes based on community feedback and new industry developments. The adopted guidelines now include the following:

  • Provision to consider EV charging infrastructure within retail areas
  • Additional specific requirements regarding signage and line-marking of EV parking spaces to be consistent with the recently publish Austroads Guidelines
  • More specific information regarding the configuration of parking spaces with special consideration made to disabled access requirements
  • Additional requirements for submissions and further information regarding the approval process through the Parramatta Traffic Committee.

Please view the Adopted Guidelines in Resources. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback to Council.
