Epping Aquatic Centre
The City of Parramatta is shaping the future of Epping with a clear, community-focused vision for infrastructure that supports the growing population, enhances wellbeing, and delivers vibrant public spaces.
Council has committed to exploring options to deliver a modern, fit for purpose aquatic and recreation centre, and any additional infrastructure required to meet the needs of the Epping community.
Council has now completed the Epping Community Infrastructure Analysis, a foundational piece of work that will guide future decisions on the delivery of major community infrastructure. This analysis will ensure that future investment in Epping reflects community needs and creates spaces where people can connect, play, and thrive.
A report and set of recommendations were considered at the 8 December Council meeting. As a result, we are excited to be moving forward with concept designs, business cases, and detailed feasibility studies for:
- A new aquatic centre and an indoor recreation facility across two locations at West Epping Park and Cox Park.
- A community hub, including expanded library, at Rawson Street car park (that will also consider the future of the Pembroke Street site).
This new direction will deliver even more community infrastructure and public spaces to cater to the wider Epping community.
Dence Park
Council has been actively exploring ways to reopen the pool in a limited capacity so that the community can enjoy the space again while we continue planning for the future.
Council is looking into targeted improvements to the current Epping Aquatic Centre to safely extend its use so locals can continue enjoying aquatic activities. This is subject to being able to repurpose the grant money from the Stronger Communities Fund.
Importantly, in the long-term Council is committed to retaining Dence Park as public open space for the community and will explore repurposing it into a refreshed recreational precinct with outdoor courts, youth-friendly infrastructure, and natural parkland, following the opening of a permanent aquatic facility at the chosen location. This will be a space that the community can continue to enjoy for generations.
