No. The current upgrade only focuses on the outdoor area. The existing community centre building, layout, and operating hours will remain the same.
All feedback on the proposed upgrades will be reviewed and considered by Council to help refine the draft design before construction commences. Feedback related to possible future programming and other requested changes to the community centre will be considered closely and used to apply for grant funding when available.
Construction is anticipated to commence in April 2026 and take approximately 16 weeks to complete, subject to weather conditions. Impacts on the community centre will be kept to a minimum; however, the court area will be out of action for the duration of the works. Updates will be shared on this page.
The new court will include line markings that allow for basketball, netball, and futsal (soccer) to be played.
To bring the Newington Community Centre court into line with other courts available for hire in the City of Parramatta, a booking system will be introduced whereby users will have to pre-book a time slot. Bookable will provide certainty to hirers and will be linked to the lights so that they are only on at night when a booking is taking place. To find out more, click here.
The new court will no longer include a soft rubber surface and will instead see the line markings painted directly onto concrete, similar to other Council courts – like a tennis court. This provides consistency and is easier to maintain.
The new ‘hitting’ wall is being built to facilitate tennis, pickleball and handball etc.
Yes. The softplay area can be booked in conjunction with the hall and, otherwise, will be available to other hirers of the community centre as a breakout area when not in use.
The court will be available for hire between 8am and 10pm, seven days per week. For more information about booking Newington Community Centre, click here.
