Sophia Crescent Reserve Playground - Draft Concept Plan

In mid‑2025, City of Parramatta Council sought community feedback on a proposal to develop a new playground at Sophia Crescent Reserve, North Rocks.

The proposal aims to address a gap in local play opportunities within the surrounding residential area and responds to advocacy from residents.

Community feedback showed strong overall support, with 80% of respondents supporting a new playground at this site. Key benefits identified included support for children’s development, opportunities to build community connection, and the lack of a walkable playground nearby.

At the same time, members of the community raised concerns about potential environmental impacts - particularly on existing mature trees - as well as safety issues due to the reserve’s small size, proximity to roads, and potential impacts on adjoining properties.

Taking all feedback into account, and reflecting the community’s preference for quieter play options, a draft concept plan has been developed. The proposed design is intended to compliment the local bushland and features low‑height, nature‑based play elements with balance‑based and imaginative play equipment and sandstone block seating.

Public exhibition - Completed

In mid-2026, Council invited the community to have input on the proposed design for this new local playground until 5pm on Monday 22 June 2026.

Next steps

Following the public exhibition period, the concept plan will be adjusted and finalised to reflect community input. Council will then consider opportunities to secure funding to progress the playground to construction.
