Council consulted with the local community on the proposal to construct raised pedestrian crossings in Baker Street and Blenheim Road, Carlingford. The purpose of the proposal is to improve pedestrian safety and access to and from both Carlingford West Public School and Cumberland High School.
For the proposal in Baker Street, Council received 15 responses with 10 agreeing, two agreeing to an extent, and three opposing the proposal.
For the proposal in Blenheim Road, Council received 15 responses with 13 agreeing, one agreeing to an extent, and one neutral response to the proposal.
The main concerns raised by the community are relating to traffic congestion impacts on local streets, with calls for traffic controllers during peak periods to support safety and improve traffic flow. Council will relay this feedback to the Department of Education, which is responsible for the construction of the two raised pedestrian crossings.
When considering the community feedback and in line with the 2025 Authorisation and Delegation for Prescribed Traffic Control Devices and Regulation of Traffic, Council has approved the following:
1. Installation of a raised pedestrian crossing in Baker Street, Carlingford south of Felton Road
2. Installation of a raised pedestrian crossing in Blenheim Road, Carlingford at Baker Street
