Between 19 August to 16 September 2025, Council sought community feedback regarding plans for
• Installation of a median island in Spurway Street at Betty Cuthbert Avenue
• A roundabout and pedestrian refuge islands at the Jackson Street intersection
• A ‘No Right Turn – Vehicles under 9m Excepted’ restriction in Jackson Street at Club Lane
Council received 98 submissions for the proposal, with the following breakdown:
• Yes: 31
• Yes, to an extent: 22
• Unsure: 8
• No: 37
The results indicate majority support for the proposal, with 31 respondents in favour and 22 expressing partial support. There were however 37 submissions opposed to the proposal. Council has closely reviewed these submissions and identified two key changes to the proposal in response to community feedback.
Design Changes Based on Feedback
• The proposed pedestrian refuge island in Jackson Street has been removed from the design.
• As a result, the ‘No Right Turn – Vehicles under 9m Excepted’ restriction at Club Lane is no longer required.
Council will proceed with the remaining proposed works. Installation is expected to be completed by June 2026.
For detailed comments received during the consultation and Council officers’ responses, please refer to the Parramatta Transport Forum Report.
The section of Spurway Street between Jackson Street and Victoria Road, near the Betty Cuthbert Avenue shopping strip, has been identified as a priority for traffic improvements. The current design no longer meets the demands of increased traffic to the shopping area, causing congestion on Victoria Road and raising the risk of collisions at the intersection. In response to community requests, Council has prioritised this intersection for redesigning.
There are two main adjustments to the current traffic flow. Motorists entering Ermington town centre from Victoria Road will no longer be able to turn into the shopping strip while traveling southbound; instead, they must use the roundabout and enter via Spurway Street in the northbound direction. Additionally, motorists exiting the shopping area via Spurway Street cannot proceed southbound and will need to exit using River Road to travel southbound in the direction of Parramatta River.
To accommodate the roundabout and associated works, approximately four to five on-street parking spaces will be removed from Jackson Street, Ermington
If there are no substantial objections to the proposal and it receives approvals from all relevant bodies, such as the Local Traffic Forum and Council, the construction work for this roundabout is expected to take place by mid-2026. You can FOLLOW this page for updates.
