Council consulted with the local community on the proposal to construct pedestrian refuge island in Tintern Avenue, Carlingford in early 2026. The purpose of the proposal is to improve pedestrian safety and access to and from Cumberland High School.
Council received 12 responses with eight agreeing, two agreeing to an extent, and two opposing the proposal.
We heard strong support for pedestrian safety, particularly for school children, alongside some concerns about potential traffic congestion impacts. Council will monitor these impacts as the project progresses.
When considering the community feedback and in line with the 2025 Authorisation and Delegation for Prescribed Traffic Control Devises and Regulation of Traffic, Council has approved the installation of a pedestrian refuge island in Tintern Avenue, Carlingford
