Finlaysons Creek Trail

Construction starting soon on Finlaysons Creek Trail Stage 1

Council is pleased to advise that construction of Stage 1 of the Finlaysons Creek Pedestrian and Cyclist Trail is scheduled to begin during the week commencing 28 September 2026. This exciting project will create new walking and cycling connections through Shannons Paddock, Wentworthville, between Darcy Road and Reid Avenue. It forms part of a broader three-stage project that will eventually connect Milson Park in Westmead with Lytton Park in Wentworthville.

What works are being delivered?
Stage 1 works include:

• New shared walking and cycling paths through Shannons Paddock
• A new bridge crossing over Finlaysons Creek
• New lighting to improve safety and accessibility
• New signage and line marking
• Landscaping, including advanced tree planting and low-level planting
• Associated civil works and earthworks required to deliver the new infrastructure

Construction timing
Construction is expected to take approximately nine months, weather permitting, and is anticipated to be completed by mid-2027.

Works will generally be carried out:
• Monday to Friday: 7am to 5pm
• Saturday: 8am to 5pm

Temporary park and path closures and diversion
To ensure the safety of park users and construction workers, sections of Shannons Paddock will be temporarily closed while construction is underway. The existing footpath through Shannons Paddock will be closed from late September 2026 until mid-2027. A temporary pedestrian diversion route will be available via Lydbrook Street (see diversion map). Please follow all signage when travelling through the area and allow additional travel time if required.
